 What is Nano Hydroxyapatite?

We get it. Nano-hydroxyapatite is a bit of a mouthful.

But while it may seem strange to you, your body is familiar with this magic mineral.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is a natural form of calcium that makes up 97%  of your tooth enamel, 70% of dentin (the layer under the enamel), and about 70% of your bones.  It's even present in your saliva!

It’s an excellent alternative to fluoride in toothpaste. In modern dentistry,  HA keeps your bones and teeth strong and healthy.

This article will give you an insight into nano-hydroxyapatite; what it is and why it is superior for oral care. We will also examine how choosing toothpaste with this powerful mineral will improve your oral hygiene.

Why Nano-Hydroxyapatite is Better

Nano-hydroxyapatite (nano HAp) is a smaller, more effective form that naturally fuses with hydroxyapatite in your teeth. Although chemically similar to HA, nano HAp has a smaller particle size. This allows it to cover more surface area and reach deeper into teeth. It’s also less abrasive and sticks better to the tooth's surface area, offering more protection.

Recent studies show that nano HAp builds a stronger structure that resists acid attacks more effectively than other minerals.

Key Benefits of Nano-Hydroxyapatite.

  • Biocompatible — It works well with your body’s tissues.
  • Bioactive — Your body can easily absorb and use nano HAp.
  • Osteoconductive — It supports and guides the growth of new bone.
  • Nontoxic — Since your body naturally produces hydroxyapatite, nano HAp causes no harmful reactions or irritations.

Nano hydroxyapatite has an interesting history that spans four decades. NASA invented the first version of nano-hydroxyapatite in 1970.

Why would a space agency spend time creating nano HAp?

Astronauts returning home from space experienced mineral loss from teeth and bones due to prolonged time in zero gravity. To address this, NASA created nano-HAp to restore lost minerals.

With the help of nanotechnology, scientists turned hydroxyapatite into tiny particles that actively remineralize your teeth.

Since then, nano HAp has become a staple in toothpaste and dental products, especially in Japan and Europe.

4 Powerful Benefits of Nano Hydroxyapatite

Nano Hap Strengthens and Remineralize the Tooth Enamel

  1. Repairs Teeth From the Inside

Your teeth have tiny holes called dentin tubules under your enamel. Minerals and other substances, like bacteria, use these tubules to travel in and out of your teeth.

When you eat sugary foods, bacteria process the sugar and release acids as waste products. These acids lower your mouth's pH level to or below 5.5.  This process called demineralisation, weakens the enamel.

FYI: The pH level in Karmicare Biorhythmic Oral Health (both the Awake and Asleep formulations) is between 6.5 and  7.5.

Since enamel isn’t a living tissue, it cannot regrow. However, slight damage can be repaired through remineralization - a natural process of restoring minerals such as calcium and phosphate to the teeth.

Saliva helps by neutralizing acids and restoring calcium and phosphate to teeth. However, saliva isn’t enough on its own. Toothpaste with nanoHAp helps strengthen and remineralize tooth enamel.

It does this by bonding with your teeth, replacing lost minerals, and strengthening weak enamel. Nano HAp penetrates the enamel’s surface area and directly restores the amount of calcium and phosphates in areas where they have dissolved.

It also fills up microscopic cracks in the enamel.

2. Nano Hydroxyapatite Whitens Your Teeth Without Hurting Your Enamel

Stained yellow teeth are embarrassing. Most whitening products available only give temporary results and leave behind a weak and demineralized enamel.

Bleaching agents like hydrogen peroxide whiten teeth but often cause tooth sensitivity and chemical burns.

So while you’ll have whiter teeth, they’ll become sensitive and cause pain when you’re eating or drinking.

Nano HAp offers a better solution, naturally whitening teeth without harsh chemicals. It fills the micropores in the enamel, creating a smoother tooth surface. This results in a glossy, whiter appearance without damaging the enamel.

3. Nano Hydroxyapatite Reduces Your Tooth Hypersensitivity by Blocking Dentinal Tubules

Tooth sensitivity occurs when your gum pulls away and exposes your dentin. Dentin contains tubules that lead to the nerves. When dentin is exposed, it triggers pain from hot, cold, or acidic foods.

Dental hypersensitivity is often triggered by brushing or flossing. This condition frustrates dentists due to the lack of a consistent and reliable remedy.

According to dental professionals, nano HAp toothpaste is more effective in preventing cavities and reducing the discomfort of sensitive teeth than traditional treatment.

Nano HAp has shown promising results in alleviating tooth sensitivity — something I’ve experienced myself! Recently, my partner pointed out that I was enjoying ice cream with no trouble. An awesome reminder of the power of this wonder mineral.

Nano Hap gets Rid of Teeth Sensitivity

Nano HAp reduces sensitivity by blocking the open dentinal tubules in teeth.  The nanocrystals that make up nano-hydroxyapatite are hydrophilic. This means that they have hydrating properties. Instead of numbing your teeth with potassium nitrate, Nano HAp attaches itself to the crown of your teeth, protecting them and lowering the pain caused by sensitivity.

4. Nano Hydroxyapatite Protects Your Enamel From Acidic Food and Drinks

Foods like citrus, soda, lemon, tomatoes, and candy are highly acidic. They slowly chip away the enamel. This is called tooth erosion - a gateway to tooth abscesses, cavities, hypersensitivity, and tooth loss. Sugary foods hold the same fate for your teeth. The microbes in your mouth digest the carbohydrates and produce acid which ruins your enamel.

Wiping out all bacteria isn't the solution because good bacteria are necessary to keep oral flora balanced.

Nano hydroxyapatite forms a protective layer on your teeth. It also rebuilds lost calcium and phosphate deposits. It shields teeth from acids and bacteria, reducing the risk of decay. Nano HAp protects your teeth against decay by grouping the disease-causing microbes, which you can then spit out.

This reduces the likelihood of harmful acids attacking your teeth.

Your Toothpaste Matters More Than You Think

Your oral health is priceless to your overall well-being.

Minor oral health issues can lead to serious health issues like heart disease, pneumonia,  and even complications in pregnant women.

Most oral care products do little to protect your teeth. Many contain harmful ingredients like fluoride, sodium laureth sulfate (SLS), saccharin, or triclosan, which can be toxic over time.

Karmicare Biorhythmic nano HAp toothpaste is your surest bet. It is safe for all ages, even your toddlers can swallow it without you having to call poison control.

Did you know? Switching to a nano HAp toothpaste is the smartest decision you can make for your and your family’s oral and overall health.

How To Use Nano Hydroxyapatite

The best way to use nano HAp is in a specially formulated toothpaste.

We suggest our Biorhythmic Oral Hygiene Set. It combines nano HAp with health-conscious, low-abrasive ingredients that work with your body’s natural detox and repair cycles.

We also include herbs like guarana for energy in the morning and valerian to help you unwind at night.

Not all nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste are the same. Some contain fluoride and other questionable ingredients.

For best results, brush your teeth mindfully for at least 2 minutes twice daily. Then, leave nano HAp toothpaste in your mouth (by not rinsing) for a while. This gives the mineral more time to nourish your teeth with its benefits.

Note: Never, ever do this with fluoride toothpaste!
